Open plan living is increasingly becoming the first choice for a home layout, but you can never beat the comfort that a closed plan living space gives you.
On one hand, you have a wide, open and modern space that provides you with an abundance of light, but on the other hand, you can have multiple rooms that separate your space, allow you privacy and provide comfort.
So why is open plan living such a popular style choice?
The most evident benefit of an open plan is spending quality time with other members of your household.
You can see the attraction; for new parents, you can keep an eye on young children in an open space, if you’re big on entertaining a crowd (whether it be by a games night, dinner party, house party, or social get together), the kitchen, dining room and living room can all blend together into one large social space.
Open floor plans allow for individual activities and social togetherness to coexis.
What we mean, is that you can still keep yourself to yourself, partaking in your own activities, whilst enjoying the communication and commeradry with everyone else in your household.
From large family homes, to a quaint one bed flat, properties with an open plan layout are selling for more money than those with several smaller rooms; in short, the aesthetic appeal of an open plan home is currently being seen as a financial investment, not to mention being visually appealing at the same time.
It doesn’t mean that open-plan doesn’t come without its disadvantages…
Yes, the design is ideal to encourage sharing and cooperation in a large environment, but – whether you like to admit it or not – we all need a quiet space to spend some alone time in, and it’s becoming a trend for home owners to crave a separate space away from the open plan hustle and bustle.
Interestingly, since the coronavirus outbreak, open plan is no longer suiting the needs for many homeowners, and closed plan is once again, becoming more favourable.
With an open plan space, you can also expect to see more visual clutter, a higher frequency of noise travel, less storage space, less wall space, extra expenses, and for your home to be less energy efficient.
Don’t let this cloud your judgement, because open plan comes with a countless list of positives benefits, but it is important to always weigh up the pros and cons before making your final decision.
